LinLED: a Patented and Bio-Inspired Technology

The Bio-Inspired research team at the Institute of Movement Sciences in Marseille run by Stéphane Viollet (CNRS research director) has pushed the boundaries of infrared technology to create a sensor that captures every movement with exceptional precision of 1 millimeter. Our optical bio-inspired technology LinLED draws inspiration from the electromagnetic receptors found in electric fish, allows fast and accurate contactless interaction as natural as the electric fish's sensory abilities. 

LinLED is composed of a 1D array of infrared LEDs and photodiodes. The two analog sums S1 and S2 are combined to provide the absolute position of a finger or a hand moving in the air over LinLED.
